Anti-Obesity Therapy

Endoscopic anti-obesity therapy includes non-surgical endoscopic procedures that may be considered as part of a structured weight-management program for selected patients. These procedures are performed through the mouth using an endoscope and are intended to support weight reduction together with nutrition, physical activity and long-term behavioural changes.

Two commonly discussed endoscopic options are intragastric balloon placement and Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG). The procedures work in different ways: an intragastric balloon temporarily occupies space inside the stomach, while ESG uses endoscopic sutures to reduce the functional volume of the stomach.

Suitability depends on factors such as body mass index, obesity-related medical conditions, previous weight-loss attempts, eating patterns, gastrointestinal history and overall health. A complete medical and nutritional assessment is important before selecting any procedure.

Endoscopic therapy is not a replacement for long-term lifestyle management. Follow-up with dietary guidance, behavioural support and medical monitoring remains an important part of achieving and maintaining weight-loss goals.
